Venus and Cupid Sculpture

The “Venus and Cupid” sculpture (subtitled “Love, The Most Beautiful Of Absolute Disasters”), sits on Morecambe promenade overlooking Morecambe Bay.

Designed by Shane A. Johnstone in 2005, the sculpture celebrates motherhood, unconditional love, loss and heartbreak. The statue was installed in 2005 and its theme resonated with the tragedy of the 24 Cocklers who had died in the Bay the previous year.

The sculpture recently underwent major repairs which employed the ancient Japanese method of “Kintsugi” during which the tiny mosaic tiles lost through frost damage were skilfully replaced with gold leaf.

The fantastic art installation can be found on Morecambe Promenade, opposite the entrance to Morecambe Golf Club.
